Versatility and Maneuverability Lead Sanitary Supplies Company to Choose the Dex Pro+ Over Electric Pallet Jacks

Dex pro+While forklifts are typically the go-to form of equipment for heavy pallet loads, manual or electric pallet jacks are excellent solutions for lighter pallet loads. However, customers conducting business with the former California-based Central Sanitary Supply (CSS) haven’t always purchased supplies by the pallet load (CSS is now part of BradyIFS, a leading North American food service and JanSan platform).

For less-than-pallet load order fulfillment that is placed on delivery trucks as well as on-site customer purchases, company representatives David Martini and James Esquivel considered investing in electric pallet jacks for the company’s three warehouses.

With electric pallet jacks being cost-prohibitive for the type of work CSS needed them to perform, Martini and Esquivel decided that they required a much better, more cost-effective solution.

Product demo made all the difference

Based on their long-time relationship with Amigo Mobility’s Western Regional Sales Manager Tim Ketcham, Martini and Esquivel approached him for any ideas that he could provide. Ketcham then provided a personal demonstration of Amigo Mobility’s 1,100 lb. capacity Dex Pro+ industrial mid-size material handling carrier with a detachable trailer.

Once they saw the Dex Pro+ and trailer in action, Martini and Esquivel knew that Amigo Mobility had the right equipment for their warehouse material handling needs.

“When we implemented the Dex Pro+, we quickly found that the carrier is much more effective than either a manual or electric pallet jack, extremely versatile for pulling and servicing product orders for shipment, and also highly useful for delivering products to customers who are picking them up directly in our parking lot,” shared Martini.

CSS even liked the Dex Pro+ so much that the company decided to start selling Amigo Mobility’s industrial mid-size material handling products to its customers.

MaintenanceBefore being acquired by BradyIFS in 2022, CSS implemented the Amigo Mobility Dex Pro+ in its three warehouses:

  • Modesto (50,000 square feet)
  • Fresno (45,000 square feet)
  • Bakersfield (25,000 square feet)

Martini revealed that because of Amigo Mobility’s material handling carts, he quickly lost interest in pursuing electric pallet jacks for material handling. Although for moving heavy pallet load orders, CSS does rely on six traditional forklifts to get the job done with three each devoted to the company’s day and night shifts.

Being highly safety-minded, all of the CSS warehouse’s Dex Pro+ carriers feature a blue light that projects its beam on the floor in front of the carrier which provides a visual warning in cross traffic areas. The carriers are also equipped with a strobe light and horn.

The perfect answer to manual carts

Dex Pro+ in action“Since warehouse staff is no longer required to push heavy manual carts for order fulfillment now that we’re using the Dex Pro+, the potential for workplace injuries has been greatly diminished due to less wear and tear, including back or shoulder problems,” Martini pointed out. “Even though our warehouses already have an excellent safety record, our Amigo Mobility equipment is further strengthening that achievement.”

Esquivel further explained, “Weighing in at up to 200 lbs. when fully loaded, the carts got very heavy. With the Dex Pro+, our warehouse staff is experiencing way less fatigue during their day and evening shifts due to the reduced amount of manual labor.”

Esquivel added that his warehouse staff loves this motorized material handling cart, especially night shift personnel who make a high number of back-and-forth trips to unload order fulfillment inventory at the warehouses’ loading docks where three-person crews load orders by hand into delivery trucks. During the company’s shifts, CSS uses its Dex Pro+ equipment for will-call deliveries as well as inventory stocking.

Esquivel has found that the batteries on Amigo’s material handling products hold up well and he likes the fact that they can be recharged at any standard 110V outlet in his warehouses, unlike the company’s forklifts.

“The Dex Pro+ is highly durable and has a great warranty as we move forward with plans to implement additional equipment from Amigo,” Esquivel further commented. “We’ve also used the Dex Pro+ carriers and trailers for a variety of janitorial and maintenance needs. Their usefulness continues to grow for a variety of applications all while making a big difference in staff productivity with a lot more work getting done as opposed to using manual carts.”

Unlike anything used before

Dex Pro+ for facility maintenanceMartini admitted that he and his company became too narrowly focused on the various material handling options available in the marketplace for their needs, seemingly being limited to forklifts, as well as manual or electric pallet jacks.

“Learning about Amigo Mobility’s line of industrial material handling equipment has been a real game changer not only for our various needs and applications but being able to sell the products to our customers,” Martini stressed. “We see tremendous potential for Amigo Mobility’s industrial products ranging from school warehouses and wineries to landscape nurseries and even to hospitals that handle their own laundry. The applications are limitless.”

Esquivel also mentioned that the Dex Pro+ footprint is unlike anything his company has used before. “The Dex Pro+ is much more maneuverable and faster than an electric pallet jack, plus it has excellent pulling capability.” Warehouse personnel have also found that this particular burden carrier is more practical while making it easier to pull orders and transport them up to several hundred yards to waiting delivery trucks, he added.

“Amigo Mobility’s industrial products not only provide a high degree of versatile mobility but are also very practical,” Martini said. “Our various locations outside of California are starting to look at Amigo Mobility’s industrial products for their own use and to sell because awareness about their versatility is catching everybody’s attention.”

Martini concluded, “When Amigo Mobility’s industrial products are demonstrated, they get businesses thinking about a new approach to material handling within their warehouses and for other needs as well.”
