Since 1968, Amigo has helped thousands of people with long-term mobility limitations regain their independence. Whether it’s injury, surgery, or other circumstances, leaving a person temporarily unable to maneuver daily life, Amigo is here to help.
Take Savannah Reitz for example, a high school student and athlete that lives an active lifestyle full of sports, family outings and exploring the great outdoors. Her active lifestyle was put on pause after a sports injury. An ACL tear during a soccer game left Savannah temporarily immobile, transforming her energetic lifestyle into a sedentary daily routine.
That is when her sister, Sierra (an Amigo employee), recommended renting the TravelMate. Hesitant at first as Savannah had never considered a motorized mobility product, but once she gave it a try, everything changed. Soon she was back to engaging in other daily activities she once took for granted.
Using an Amigo TravelMate gave Savannah a new perspective on accessibility. “It was really eye opening to see how people are treated who have a walking limitation,” she says.
The real test came when she attended a concert in Detroit, Michigan. Navigating the crowded arena, sidewalks and steps were difficult, but the TravelMate made it possible. She recalls meeting another young athlete with an ACL tear, who was on crutches, and realized how fortunate she was to have mobility support says, “It gave me a way to get out of the house and be a part of activities with my family again.”
Savannah’s journey wasn’t without challenges, but the support of her family made it easier. For her, the TravelMate isn’t just a mobility aid, but a means to regain her independence and opened her eyes to others’ experiences.
For Mary Lepcyzk, a preschool teacher preparing for hip surgery, using an Amigo temporarily was a game changer. Determined to continue teaching, she was able to keep up with her students and even play the game Red Light, Green Light in the gym with preschoolers. The TravelMate also gave her the freedom to enjoy outings, from shopping trips to quality time with her loved ones.
“Being able to use an Amigo was a lifesaver, I was able to stay connected with my colleagues, go to church, go shopping and other activities when I had trouble walking,” shared Mary.
“The Amigo has brought joy back into my life,” Mary said. “My husband Floyd says that he has a hard time keeping up with me now!”
Whether used for staying active at work with a classroom of preschoolers or attending concerts with friends and family, Amigo is there to help keep you on the go.
