In 1989, Scott Chappell started working at Amigo Mobility. He spent his early days wearing different hats, but he primarily managed the Amigo Mobility Center retail store until he moved into his current role in industrial sales management.

Over the years, Scott has talked to many customers about the benefits and features Amigo products offer, helping them find the mobility device that was right for them. Helping people is a passion of his, and working in the Mobility Center allowed him to help customers in such an important way.

“I enjoy the people; I enjoy the process. And we’re not trying to just put people in products, because it’s bigger than that,” Scott said. “And I’m living that today. It’s kind of crazy, I’m on the other side of the fence now.”

A few years ago, Scott started needing help walking and with his mobility.

“We tried to help people; we tried to give them mobility, we tried to outfit their car, we tried to make it so that the products they had could be used in their bathroom,” Scott said. “Well, now I’m on the other side of the fence where I’m doing all of those things; my day-to-day is that. I think the biggest transition was from suggesting and offering the product to using it.”

Scott used the TravelMate primarily for a few years. He traveled frequently, often by air, and with that Amigo, he could go anywhere.

What stood out most, he said, were features like its lithium battery, throttle, and controls.

“The beautiful thing about the TravelMate is that it just does everything right,” he said. “It folds down easily, has plenty of leg room, and with it I’m as mobile as anybody.”

Today, he uses an Amigo RT for about 12 hours every day, and he said it works perfectly in tandem with his daily life.

“I’m going to tell you right now, I’m 60 years old. It’s not young, it’s not old, I guess. I’m not stopping. I’m not going to slow down for anybody,” he said.

Scott has always believed in the products he sold, not just as tools, but as real solutions that change lives. Now, living with the very challenges he helped others face, those beliefs have been tested and proven true.

“There’s been people before me who need these products, there’s going to be people after me. What I am fortunate for is: I received the gratification of helping people by introducing them to Amigo, and now it’s kind of come full circle. I’m actually the person using one, and I’m also getting all the benefits from it.”

Scott’s journey—from helping others regain independence to navigating his own mobility challenges—embodies the spirit that drives everything Amigo does.

“I am grateful to be part of the Amigo family as an employee and also a customer,” he said. “We’ve worked together to make accommodations so I can keep doing what I love, selling Amigos!”
