Where can I find the serial number for my Amigo?

Depending on the Amigo model you have and when it was purchased, the serial number is likely located on the steering column, under the rear cover, on the frame or near one of the rear wheels. See below for photos of the most common serial number locations.

Is there a free and fast way to test if my Amigo batteries are in good working order?

A battery stall test is an option.

This is a fast and easy test, no tools required. Results are about 20% accurate.

Stall testing will indicate if a battery has the capacity to charge.

Procedure:

  1. Position the front end of the Amigo against a sturdy wall and pull the forward lever.
  2. If the battery gauge on the enclosure immediately drops, one or both batteries may need to be replaced.

I purchased my Amigo with a standard seat. Can I upgrade to a Power Seat Lift?

Yes, you can upgrade a standard seat post to a power seat lift (PSL) and you will need a new upper seat post as well. A PSL requires a Touchtron or Travel Switch handle. See options here.

How can I relieve seating pressure and avoid skin breakdown?

Foam provides a stable seating surface that helps with a variety of positioning issues. Foam only needs to be replaced about once a year, and foam cushions offer a low-maintenance option to help reduce the risk of skin breakdown. Foam cushions can be swapped out on your existing seat, providing an inexpensive way to add comfort to your Amigo without replacing the entire seating system. View Amigo seating options here.

How long does it take to charge a battery?

If a battery is fully discharged, it may take up to eight (8) hours to reach a full charge. Good charging habits improve battery performance. It’s helpful to charge batteries at every opportunity whenever the Amigo is not in use, which will also reduce charging time because batteries aren’t discharged as deeply. Amigo battery chargers are smart chargers, so they will stop charging when the battery reaches a full charge. Extended charging will not damage batteries if they are in good condition.

How long do batteries last when fully charged?

Battery performance depends on a variety of factors, including the size of the batteries, temperature, speed traveled, terrain and more. Generally you will be able to get through the day without charging your Amigo; though, it is wise to charge batteries at every opportunity whenever the Amigo is not in use. Batteries cannot be harmed from overcharging; and, it is not good for batteries to be deeply discharged on a regular basis. Extended charging will not damage batteries if they are in good condition.

When do I need to replace the batteries for my Amigo?

Batteries generally need to be replaced every 12-18 months (24-36 months with proper charging). If you are having trouble with charging or notice batteries getting hot or bulging during charging, it may be time for new batteries. View Amigo battery options here. What criteria does Medicare use to determine eligibility for mobility scooters?

The first step in applying for a mobility scooter through Medicare is to get a prescription from your physician. The physician and durable medical equipment provider will then complete a Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMN). For a person to qualify for Medicare reimbursement for a mobility scooter, a person must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Requires a wheelchair to maneuver in his/her home
  • Cannot operate a manual wheelchair
  • Can safely operate the controls of a mobility scooter
  • Can transfer safely to and from a mobility scooter
  • Has adequate stability to safely ride a mobility scooter

Medicare reimbursement varies depending on where you live. We recommend finding a local durable medical equipment provider to help you with the Medicare reimbursement process. Connect with an Amigo Mobility Center equipment provider here.
