Traveling can become more complicated when walking long distances is a challenge. For many people, the Amigo TravelMate has made it easier to stay mobile and enjoy the journey.
Making trips more manageable
Veronica Boone and her husband are longtime Amigo owners—her husband has used an Amigo for over 10 years—so when mobility challenges made travel and even short walks difficult, the Amigo TravelMate felt like the best choice.
Before using the TravelMate, severe back pain made it hard for Veronica to walk through stores or get out and about comfortably. Now, she uses the TravelMate both at home to help her with everyday tasks and when traveling. She said that she took the Amigo on a trip to Tennessee in the summer of 2025, and she appreciated how easy it was to fold and that it had great battery life, making the trip more manageable.
“The TravelMate makes me feel less stressed when I’m going out and about,” Veronica said. “It helps so much with my pain management, too.”
She did note the TravelMate can be heavy to lift in and out of a vehicle, so having a second set of hands makes all the difference.
Veronica said she recommends it to anyone who is considering renting or buying a TravelMate because it gives her more confidence to go places she might otherwise avoid.
Able to keep up with family
One of Alice Reinke’s favorite things to do is travel, but walking long distances was a challenge for her. She said she had a personal mobility device before the TravelMate, but it wasn’t cutting it for travel; it was hard to load and unload from her vehicle, and she had to disassemble and reassemble it when she arrived. It was no easy task.
When she researched what other options were out there, she found the Amigo TravelMate and drove out to the Amigo Mobility Center with a friend to check it out.
“When we got there, the customer service was fantastic, and we loved the TravelMate. We each bought one right then in the store,” Alice recalled. “They had two—one red, one blue—which was perfect for us.”
Alice likes that its design allows her to load it easily into her SUV. She said that because the platform is longer, she can prop the Amigo against the bumper of her car, lift it up, and roll it right into the cargo area. Another feature of the TravelMate Alice appreciates is that it folds down and is extremely compact, allowing for more room in the cargo area for luggage. Her other mobility device didn’t offer the same amount of space.
Beyond loading it into vehicles, she said it’s a very smooth ride, and its design makes it convenient to use anywhere. She did say the TravelMate is a little heavy for her, but even if she doesn’t have a second set of hands, she’s able to manage.
Alice has taken her TravelMate to several places over the years, but she said her favorite vacation was with her family at Disney World in Florida. She said the TravelMate worked out great for the trip, especially since she purchased an extra lithium battery; she didn’t have to stop and recharge midday.
“When the first battery died, we just switched it right out with the extra one,” she said. “And I got to go twice as far and go all day. It just works like a dream.”
Alice said the best part of the TravelMate is how it makes her feel when she’s using it.
“I love it because I know I’m going to be able to keep up with my family; they don’t have to stop and wait for me,” she shared. “And it just makes me feel more secure.”
Because of that renewed confidence and independence, Alice said she tells everyone about the Amigo TravelMate.
“If you’re thinking of renting or getting one, go ahead and do it. I’ve been using them for years, and it really helps,” Alice said. “You could actually go and do something with confidence, not go and then say, ‘Well, I have to drop out because I can’t make it any further.’”
A once-in-a-lifetime trip
When Jennifer Pollitt’s family had the opportunity to travel overseas—there was no hesitation; they were definitely going. However, they were concerned about how their mom would get around on vacation.
“We were taking a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Europe with my mom, my four sisters, and my sister-in-law. My mom is 85 years old, and I would say her stamina is maybe not where it used to be,” she explained. “We knew that she would not be able to tolerate the amount of walking that we would need to do, and we just wanted to ensure she could have the best experience.”
Jennifer shared that her mother had taken a fall a month before they were meant to leave. Luckily, she didn’t break anything, but that solidified how important it was to find a safe way for her mom to travel.
Her first thought was to reach out to Amigo. With a family connection to CEO Beth Thieme, she knew they’d have the right solution. They were looking for something easy to transport, lightweight, and with a long-lasting battery.
Beth recommended the Amigo TravelMate, and while it checked every box, Jennifer said it was not well-received at first.
“Mom was very mad when we got to the airport and took it out of the truck. She was like, ‘I’m not riding that,’ and we said, ‘OK, that’s fine, but we’re going to take it anyway,’” she recalled. “We got into O’Hare in Chicago, and my sister started riding the TravelMate, and my mom thought it looked kind of fun, so she said, ‘OK, come on, let me get on that thing,’ and then she wouldn’t get off it.”
Jennifer said they had a fantastic time in Europe, and they couldn’t have done the trip without the TravelMate.

“There’s no way she would’ve been able to do that amount of walking. We wouldn’t have seen as many sights or done as much stuff as we did. The TravelMate certainly made it so that we could do everything we wanted to do,” she said.
Throughout their trip, Jennifer said there were very few times they needed her mom to get off the TravelMate to go somewhere, and most of the time, they could manage wherever they went.
“When we were in open spaces, she felt like she could show off, and it was really cute, you know? It’s kind of like putting somebody who’s 85 years old on a bicycle—normally, they wouldn’t be able to do that. But because the TravelMate has three wheels and is stable on the ground, she could do things she couldn’t normally do. That was fabulous,” Jennifer added.
Other pluses Jennifer pointed out were the battery life and how easy it was to use.
“We had no trouble with it at all,” she said. “I would recommend the TravelMate to anybody. I mean, it just gives them their independence back.”
