Amigo Mobility Acquires AeroTow
Michigan company’s growth flies higher by entering the general aviation market
Family-owned business Amigo Mobility started in 1968 with the introduction of the first motorized mobility cart for people with walking disabilities. Over the last five decades, the Michigan manufacturer has grown into a variety of markets in addition to healthcare –motorized shopping carts for grocery stores, material handling carts for industrial facilities and specialized transport chairs for hospitals.
The newest addition to our line up of products is an electric aircraft tug line for general aviation pilots to use while moving their planes, which came from the acquisition of the company AeroTow.
AeroTow was founded in 1996 by Terry Railing in Wisconsin. As a licensed private pilot, he saw a need for a better way to move small airplanes and he started building his line of AeroTow airplane tugs. With a background in machining, aviation, and tool and die making – starting AeroTow was his calling.
Earlier this year, Terry started thinking about retirement and wanted to find the right company to take over the product line and the decades of customer relationships he had built.
Through a mutual supplier, he found Amigo Mobility. There was an instant connection between Terry and the owners of Amigo Mobility, Al and Beth Thieme, when they met.
“Amigo Mobility is proud to continue Terry’s dedication to his customers and dependable products as we have a mutual passion for finding a better way,” said Beth Thieme, Amigo Mobility President and CEO. “We’ve already started manufacturing and fulfilling orders at our headquarters in Bridgeport, Michigan and are looking forward to continued growth in this market.”
