Friendly Wheels, Issue 110
With Amigo owner Ron Greif.
Long-time Amigo owner Ron Greif recently paid a visit to our Bridgeport, Mich. headquarters where he met with Amigo Founder and Inventor, Al Thieme. Ron, who has spastic cerebral palsy, told Al, “There is no other product I would ever buy because I know this like the back of my hand.” He added, “You have allowed different innovations in the Amigo that have allowed me to be a better person; and I say that from my heart.”
Ron lives in Shelby Township, Mich. and has owned an Amigo since 1972. His current Amigo is one-of-a-kind, due in part to an observation by his wife and help from Amigo Mobility Center Sales Consultant, Jake Priest. Jake noticed one day that Ron’s seating position had him nearly sliding off his seat. To fix this, Jake added a tilt chair and custom front edges to his Amigo to keep Ron’s feet from sliding forward during a muscle spasm.
As of today, Ron’s Amigo is the only existing model with the custom front edges. Ron is thrilled by these modifications and credits Jake with improving his life by listening to his unique needs and making these changes. “Jake is just an awesome guy,” said Ron. “Having the tilt chair allows me to have very little pain in my lower extremities, and my spasticity is decreased.”
In 2015, Ron retired from PetSmart after working there for nearly 20 years. During his career, he was a customer service agent, cleaned fish tanks, and performed many other tasks – all on his Amigo. Since retiring, Ron focuses his free time on studying the Bible and enjoying his hobbies of playing chess, watching University of Michigan sports, and traveling.
Ron’s travels have taken him to Colorado and Tennessee, as well as many of Michigan’s finest cities such as Mackinaw and Frankenmuth. While traveling, he enjoys going on shopping excursions and going out to dinner. His Amigo, which is University of Michigan blue, rides along in his van everywhere he goes. “It helps me live every day,” Ron said. “I use it from morning until night.”

You Ask, We Answer
Where can I find the serial number for my Amigo?
When contacting Amigo’s service department, it is helpful to have your serial number ready so we can look up your exact model. Most Amigo models have the serial number in multiple locations. However, the easiest place to find your serial number is on the steering column. See below for photos of the most common serial number locations — it is a small silver label and the serial number starts with AMI, followed by numbers.

What’s New at Amigo
In April, more than 20 Team Amigo members participated in the 3rd Annual Amigo Ping Pong Tournament to raise money for the MS Society! The event was a single elimination competition featuring 11 teams of two players. The tournament finals featured Adam Pijaszek and Debbie Williams vs. Lori Lunger and Brent Lynch. The game was a close one down to the wire, but in the end, it was Lori and Brent prevailing for the championship!
All proceeds raised from this year’s ping pong event were donated to the 2017 Walk MS fundraiser. To learn more about the MS Society, click here.
