Introducing an Innovative Safety Solution...

SmartSensor by Amigo
promotes not only independent mobility –
but more importantly – safe mobility
Amigo Mobility President and Founder Al Thieme received a request from a continuing care retirement community located in Pennsylvania. He was asked to review the idea of a safety switch and consider adding it to the design of our products to reduce collisions with residents and staff. Amigo’s engineering team went to work, and developed SmartSensor by Amigo.

Primarily used in retirement centers and independent living centers the SmartSensor by Amigo:
  1. Provides residents with safer mobility
  2. Provides staff and visitors a safer environment
During sensor activation, the Amigo POV/scooter is safely limited to a top speed of 2.3 mph indoors and designed to avoid pedestrian impact. Detecting an individual up to 30 inches ahead, the system gently slows forward speed bringing driver to a gradual stop safe from impact.

The SmartSensor system is available on select Amigo models. This technology is a safety benefit for you or a loved about to re-locate to an independent living center. Click here for more information.

A Green Partnership

Amigo Mobility and Bridgeport Powder Works have partnered each other’s product and service in an environmentally-friendly process. Bridgeport Powder Works is located on the campus of Amigo Mobility’s corporate headquarters. Steve Boehm, owner, uses the Eco-Quest phosphate-free pre-treatment system to clean and surface prep all the platforms used on Amigo power-operated mobility vehicles and electric shopping carts prior to powder coating. This green alternative meets a lengthy list of environmental objectives and is a significant cost savings over previous methods.

A Hopeful Note of Encouragement

A special friend of Amigo,
Joni Eareckson Tada, www.joniandfriends.org, has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. As she accepts this health challenge and reaches out for support and prayers, we ask that you reply in kind. Please visit her website and send her a hopeful note of encouragement.

In 1967 Joni was injured in a diving accident at 17 years old, leaving her in a quadriplegic state with minimal use of her hands. After two years of rehabilitation, Joni re-entered the community with new skills and a fresh determination to help others in similar situations. Joni and Friends began in 1979 at Joni’s house as she and her friends responded to the many questions and needs pouring in from families affected by disability who read Joni’s books or had seen the movie of her life. Joni and Friends continues to reach out around the world to people and families affected by disability with the love of Christ and the practical help they need.

From all of your friends at Amigo Mobility, Joni, know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Team Amigo Walks for MS Cure

On Saturday, May 15, a small but mighty group of Amigo associates and family members put on their collective walking shoes and walked 3.5 miles for the MS cause. The walk was conducted in Frankenmuth, Michigan’s Little Bavaria, and took the sponsored-participants throughout residential areas, the Main St business corridor and back to the starting point.

AND…it was great to see local Amigo owners’ join the walk and having fun, too!

Amigo associates conducted Jeans’ Fridays - $3 per person wearing jeans, popcorn and ice cream sandwich sales, raffles, and pizza lunches to collect monies weeks prior to the MS walk. As an annual occurrence, Amigo Mobility continues to support research for the yet elusive cure of multiple sclerosis.

Please consider doing the same. You may send donations directly to: www.nationalmssociety.org and select “Donate”.

Amigo is currently appearing in the March/April Passover issue of this publication. More than 10,000 copies are being distributed to hotels providing eight days of Passover programs for their guests nationwide. Great Lakes Bay Region Family-Run Companies Have a Unique Resource

Featured in the Saginaw News March 7, 2010, the Saginaw Valley State University’s Center for Family Business has supported local family businesses for the past decade. Amigo Mobility, a family business, regularly attends events.

"It has given us a wonderful network of businesses that we can work and share ideas with," said Beth Thieme, vice president of Amigo Mobility.

Second-generation businesswoman Jennifer Thieme, Amigo's marketing manager, said being a part of the center's Next Generation group — which allows the next generation of family business owners to meet and discuss issues unique to them — will help her throughout her career at Amigo.

"It's been great to find this commonality," she said of the spin-off group. "It's been wonderful to see there are a lot of successful businesses here and a lot of young people that are motivated and love the area."

The article was also featured in the Bay City Times and Flint Journal.
