Bangor TWP. - A Bay County museum received a one-of-a-kind donation this month from a Bridgeport business owner.

Allan R. Thieme, founder of Amigo Mobility International, Inc., donated a customized Amigo power vehicle to Bangor Township's Antique Toy and Firehouse Museum, 3456 Patterson.

The vehicle is one of the company’s red scooters, customized with details, chrome and a moving light to resemble a fire truck. “It was a surprise,” said Jimmie Dobson, the museum’s owner. “Never in the world did I think I’d get something like this.”

Thieme, who started the walking-assistance scooter company in 1968, said the donation is the latest for the museum, which has two of the company’s earlier Amigo models inside the 25,000-square-foot building.

"It's amazing what he's put together," said Thieme, referring to the 12,000-piece collection Dobson spent 50 years gathering. Dobson, owner of Bangor Township-based Dobson Industrial and Dobson Commercial Properties, met Thieme about six month ago and invited him to the museum, which includes 70 full-sized firetrucks, including a 1965 Super Pumper, the largest firetruck in the world.

Once built for New York City, Dobson said officials from museums across the country have had interest in acquiring the unique piece.

“Every time I go through here, I marvel at myself to the extent that I can’t figure out how I collected all this stuff,” said Dobson, a former assistant fire chief for Bangor Township. Dobson, 82, opened the museum in 2006.

A NASCAR room is dedicated to his son, Jeffrey Dobson, a racing fan who died of heart disease. In the middle of the room sits a pace car his son drove.

For more information, check, or call (888) 888-1270. The museum is a non-profit organization, according to Dobson.
